Top Seed Moves to Title Game
LOS ANGELES -- Top-seed UC San Diego used a consistent attack to overcome fiesty underdog and sixth-seed California Baptist, 15-9, in the first semfiinal of the 2014 Western Water Polo Association Men's Championships at LMU's Burns Aquatics Center Saturday afternoon. With the win, the sixth-ranked Tritons advance to Sunday's title game at 1 pm.
The Lancers, who upset No. 3 Air Force on Friday, looked to be riding their momenteum, tying the gam at 3-3 on a goal from Thomas Henline with 1:05 to play in the opening quarter.
However, the Tritons scored with six seconds to play in the quarter and then shutout the Lancers in the second on their way to six straight goals and a 9-3 lead after Stiling scored with 7:28 to play in the third quarter. Stiling finished with four goals and Matt Michalko, Lukas Syka and Luca D Vivo scored three goals each.
Nick Candu, Clint Walling and Brent Teraoka had two goals each for California Baptist.
